Written by Rahul Vadodkar for his two kids Sumeet and Anooj
Told to them on the night of Oct 30, 2004.
Roger woke up very happy because it was the Halloween day. He had
been waiting for this day for almost one year. Well not full year
because he had been waiting from the next day of last Halloween.
Last year his parents had carried him all over as M&M. But this
year he wanted to be something more powerful. He had decided to
go out as a spiderman.
Roger, Jonathan, Betty and Patrick decided to go alone. They wanted
to do what their elder brothers and sisters had done. But what they
didn't know was that their elder siblings were all had two digit
ages. Roger and his friends were only four year old. There was no
way in the world their parents would let them go out in Halloween
night alone.
But kids had a different idea. They snuck out of their own homes
and met at the corner of the park. They were very happy to have
fooled their parents to get out all alone.
They were a bit scared too because other children were moving out
in scary dress. There was one in scream dress that scared Jonathan.
A pirate made Roger wish he was home. Betty was scred of the witch
who was carrying a broom. Patrick didn't want to look at the
big dragon. But they all kept their fears to themselves.
So the quartet moved along. They went trick-o-treating house after
house. A couple of folks asked them where their parents were, but
kids told that the parents were a bit behind.
What they did not know was that two high school ruffians were
planning to steal all their candies. They were dressing up in
black with scary mask. Their plan was to confront the quartet
in a dark alley and threaten them with a baseball bat. They
were giggling with the prospect of eating candies earned by four
little munchkins.
The four munchkins got the surprise of their life when they saw
a menacing figure move towards them. It had a base ball bat. When
it approached them, it said in the meanest voice "Give me all your
candy, other wise I will break your head.". Roger, Jonathan, Betty
and Patrick wanted to run away, but stopped on their tracks the moment
they turned around. There was an even more scary and tall figure
with another base ball bat.
They were very scared. The first figure swung his bat over his head.
Roger closed his eyes. He wished he had listened to his parents. But
it was too late now. He began to cry and muttered "Captain. O Captain.
Please help me"
"Bam!" a noise came. He opened his eyes and saw the black figure fall
down on the street. "Bam!" another voice. Now the other figure was
on the street. "Bam! Bam! Bam!". Roger and his friends watched in
astonishment as the two figures danced around as if someone was
hitting them. Jonathan, Betty and Patrick were not able to believe
their eyes. But Roger knew what was happening.
He clearly saw Captain. Thanks to oatmeal breakfast and very healthy
meal that Captain's grandmother had been feeding him, Captain was
able to beat the hell out of the high school kids. The two of them
who had ignored their parents and ate only pizza and chips, were not
able to fight the Captain.
After five minutes, the two high school kids were running for their
life. And so were Roger and his friends. But to their own homes.
They quietly snuck in their homes. Their parents found them and
were very happy.
Captain Orange flew to his grandmother.
